Have you seen the Jim Carrey movie, Yes Man? It’s based on a real life story of a man who challenged himself to say yes to everything to break out of a rut.

With the dark days and the cold nights, it’s easy to hunker down at home and say no to new experiences. Yet now is the ideal time to say yes, or at least start planning to! Is there somewhere you’ve always dreamed of going on holiday? Do you want to see the Taj Mahal, or would you prefer to explore your own backyard and see our country’s natural wonders like Uluru? Whatever you’re dream, winter is a great time to start planning as it gives you something to look forward to, especially when you’re stuck inside as the rain is pouring down. To help you say yes, a great technique to make your dream holiday a reality is called visualisation. It’s based on the theory that whatever you focus on, you attract. There’s a number of different visualisation exercises. Here are three to get you started.

1. Imagine a virtual reality

Imagine where you want to go on holiday, or what you’d like to experience such as white water rafting in New Zealand. Think about the sounds you’ll hear, the tastes, textures and smells. Take time out each day to focus on this virtual reality for a few minutes.

2. Create a vision board

A vision board is a physical reminder of your dreams. All you need to do is flick through magazines and cut out the pictures that represent your dreams, and stick them on a board. Then put the board somewhere you’ll look at regularly.

3. Write it down

Take your virtual reality, and write it down. Putting pen to paper can help cement the dreams in your mind and your commitment to achieving them. Once you start to visualise new experiences, it will be easier to say yes. And once you start saying yes, imagine how much life will be! #MakeHolidayHappen
